A seamless fit for environments where everything is taken care of, PolySoft was the material of choice for pool areas at a prestigious new resort in Arabia.
PolySoft enters the resort scene at one of luxury Anantara Group’s latest hotels. Banana Island lies off the coast of Qatar’s capital, Doha, and opened in January 2015. The resort incorporates a wave pool for adults and a children’s play area, both surrounded by PolySoft slip-resistant surfaces. “Extreme weather conditions of high temperatures and high humidity demanded a durable, high-quality product,” says Tamer Mortada, of Play+ Qatar, the company that laid the surfaces, and which recommended the use of PolySoft.
Part of luxury is of course ensuring guests’ safety as they enjoy spectacular amenities in a beautiful setting. PolySoft Splash surface, applied here in colours of Blue, Alabaster and Arctic White, sits easily with the sparkling turquoise waters of this coastal idyll. Softer and cooler than other surfaces, it’s comfortable underfoot and protective against falls — no banana skins here!
And PolySoft loves the sun: its specially developed two-part aliphatic polyurethane binder, coupled with colorfast technology, protects against premature fading. It also provides excellent resistance to degradation due to chemicals such as chlorine, which are commonly used in aquatic playgrounds such as these.
Banana Island Doha required some 375 square metres of wet-area surround. Ten workers had to bring materials via a 20-minute boat ride to the island, level the concrete site and pour the PolySoft to a thickness of eight to ten millimetres — a project that took six days to complete. Says Mortada, “The client is totally satisfied,” with the effect and the utility of the surface, which is seamless, hygienic and easy to maintain.
“Its appeal, as shown by these two applications in the one resort, is ageless.”
“This project shows the holiday face of PolySoft: it’s fun, while being discreetly and reliably safe,” says PolySoft CEO, Ophelia Zhu. “Its appeal, as shown by these two applications in the one resort, is ageless.”
PolySoft also cushions landings in high-profile children’s precincts from Singapore to Manhattan, and back to Canberra. An Australian-developed and produced product, PolySoft is 100 per cent recyclable and derives 40 per cent of its materials from natural resources.
