Playgrounds are all about imagination. The new children’s area commissioned by property developer Carmel Partners, for Iroquois Point in Hawaii is a more than a little bit circus, with its vivid Vermillion, Sunrise and Desert Tan colour scheme chosen from the PolySoft range. Aspiring acrobats get a surprisingly soft landing in the imaginary big-top created by intersecting circular zones of PolySoft Play.
Impact attenuation is a widely accepted requirement for children’s play areas, and PolySoft is compliant with stringent international and Australian standards. Clowning around on its surface is made even more fun in hot climates such as Hawaii, because it remains up to 68°F/20°C cooler than other playground finishes such as concrete, asphalt and rubber.
“Let your own imagination run wild when you test colour combinations and bead blends on PolySoft’s great new colour mixer...”
PolySoft is cool, and it’s cooool. Says Vince Garrett, PolySoft Surfaces operations manager for North America, “Comments at the grand opening of the playground were mostly about how vibrant and cool the surface looks.”
As at several locations around the Hawaiian Islands, the play equipment had to be drilled into underlying coral – “that’s the base on many areas here”, says Garrett. The strong chemical bond between PolySoft particles also ensures superior lateral strength.
Over time, PolySoft will also show its resilience against fading in Hawaii’s harsh sunlight and humid, salty air. PolySoft’s fade resistance is down to its specially developed two-part aliphatic polyurethane binder and colourfast technology, which protects against UV radiation (and against fading by chemicals such as chlorine in splash playgrounds or pool environments).
“Whether you see the Iriquois Point design as based on a circus or a medieval fair – that’s my personal take – or inspired by Hawaii’s hibiscus hues, the point is it’s a place where kids can run wild and have a wonderful time,” says Ophelia Zhu, CEO of PolySoft Surfaces.
“We’re proud and delighted to celebrate this fun addition to our portfolio.”Among the many features that make PolySoft just right for children’s environments is the fact that it’s hygienic and easy to maintain. Budding environmentalists and green-thinking municipal authorities will also be reassured that the materials used are 100% recyclable.
